Elaine's Big Day [HD]

Best show on tv
This is an incredible show with a fantastic cast and stellar writing. The first few episodes of the show had a little trouble finding a groove, but it has gotten steadily more amazing with each episode. This second season was even better, with the last ten episodes of the season just blowing all other comedies out of the water. All the characters are amazing, and the story between Nick and Jess that took off at the second half of this second season has made them THE best tv couple of all time. Their chemistry just cannot be matched on any other show. The storylines are fun, but realistic and move organically at the same time. If the writers see a story developing (like the love between roommates, Nick and Jess) they don't hold back because they think they "should". They just GO FOR IT, and the show is so much better because they're willing to take those kinds of risks. They've developed and matured the characters at a realistic pace, without ever making you feel like they were...

Star Rating for FOX Ads! The Show Itself Is 5 Stars!
First, the show itself continues to be well-written and acted in the second season, so for the content of the show, 5 Stars!
ZERO stars for FOX's policy of putting advertising on the episodes.

Unfortunately, FOX has chosen to stick obnoxiously loud commercials at the beginning and end of each episode! A primary reason I purchase the shows like this is not to be bombarded with ads. I cannot imagine why FOX feels it necessary to put an ad at the head of each episode with a commercial for the show I ALREADY BOUGHT. Then at the end of each episode FOX insidiously inserts commercials for their other programming. I know I can skip through them, but I can do that with DVR from cable WITHOUT paying $1.99 an episode; I do not expect to have to avoid ads on episodes I purchase.

Finally, since this IS commercial-supported (and with two ads, it definitely is), the price should be lower than for other shows which are sold with no commercials, and the product description...

funny, warm, and addictive
You'll be watching half a season in a night if you're anything like me. This show only gets better with age.

Full Moon Fever

This show...
This show is not good... but I absolutely love watching trashy tv when I'm nursing a hangover. Maybe watching horrible tv with a few friends. This kills some time. If you're looking for dramatic reality tv, this isn't for you. Its a time killer, and absurd.

funny
This show gives us so many laughs. It's made up but very creative. Who would of guess there could be so many tenant problems

So So
I think they're just reenactments of past experiences. Unfortunately, they aren't very good actors. It's OK to watch if there's nothing else.

Behind The Pulpit: Preachers' Daughters Clip Show [HD]

Awesome Potential, Disparaging of of white hat issues
Pk's & Politicans kids are two professions which their kids never asked to be in the profession. They are frequently deprived of any opportunity to find the mores, Maximus, and values on their own. They must always meet some one else's expectations.
Some Pastor's and congregations have found the Grace Space to allow PK's to grow as their own person with out it defining the Pastor. So far in this season, the pastor's have been made out to be nut jobs. Granted some pastors are. But then again churches are a hospital for sinners, not a museum of saints.
The show does not reflect that the boundaries that the healthy "white hat pastors" may have set are out of loving kindness. The show does not show that the boundaries which are set by the balanced pastors are because they want their kids and parishioners to be able to have healthier unbroken lives. No parent really wants to see their potential grand kids be out of Wedlock. Nor do parents want their kids minds turned to...

HUGE disappointment
This show is advertised as a "reality" show however I've watched all of season 1 and do not know where the reality is. Usually reality shows are very random and, REAL life is full of situations that are unexpected. This is why reality TV is so entertaining... we don't know what will happen next. However, Preachers Daughters does not come off as a reality show. The parents, and so-called "preachers" of the show are depicted as control freaks and almost have a confused stare throughout the episodes... thier actions and decisions can be premeditated by the viewer as their characters do not teach values and morals but rather go through life dictating yes or no's, good and bad or a black and white perspective. These families appear to be reading a script where the same situations happen over and over again... even their living rooms, kitchens and decor is cookie-cutter'ish... then there's the ole battle of "that's too short!" (speaking of a mall clothing purchase). BORING!! Unfortunately,...

Cute
Good show especially for any young girl who has grown up in a religious home. Cheering these girls on to make good choices!

The Men Who Lost China

Thought-provoking and well-worth seeing
This is a remarkable documentary covering the history of China in the first half of the 20th Century. It shows how after centuries of monarchy, there were a number of opportunities for China to become a modern, democratic republic. Those opportunities were squandered, however, and this film explains the reasons, most of which I wasn't aware. I found it very surprising.

The overall failure of Western diplomacy, especially the US, to befriend China early on (after the fall of the last emperor), and then again and again when the chances were there, is one of the great tragedies of the last hundred years or so, I think, and this film points out all the familiar reasons: self-interest, hypocrisy, arrogance, simple inattention and incompetence--the list is endless. (A couple of World Wars didn't help, either.)

But at the top of the list you'd have to put straight ignorance: our ignorance of Chinese history, culture, thought and sensitivities, plus Chinese...

Surprisingly well done
I was a bit skeptical about what seemed a low budget, no name documentary, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it turned out to be.
The writer did extensive research on the intricacies of the East-West politics of a hundred years ago, and this definitely shows in the film. The story was laid out logically and drew me in, by the end of the film, I wished the makers went even deeper in the subject matter.
Finally the film made me reflect on how the misguided decisions our leaders made a century ago, still haunt us now.

Good job to the makers,

I also enjoyed

China From the Inside

Finally a detailed look at China's WW 1 involvement
I watched countless WW1 documentaries, including a "WW1 in Color" believe it or not... They are generally very well done but they all have been neglecting the Far East. They all seem to cover the same things: the Sarajevo assassination, the battles of Verdun, the birth of USSR, but lets face it, a hundred years from now all these events will become footnotes on history books. A colossus is rising from the Far East, and weather we like it or not, the way China feels about us, "The West", will one day matter more than everything else. Yet, historians and authors are rather slow in delving in the deep issues of Asian history.
I guess there is an inertia in the curriculum, like in everything else. Generation after generation of professors hands down textbooks covering our over glorified "History of the Western world", while Far East matters are reserved for "Asian Studies" classes.

Well, I am glad to see that this film is an exception to the rule. While is still far...

The Bird With The Crystal Plumage

Fast-paced and clever
There are two types of Dario Argento films: those after "Four Flies on Grey Velvet" (excluding "The Five Days of Milan," which was never released in the U.S.) and those before it. "The Bird With the Crystal Plumage," Argento's first film, belongs to the category of the before and includes the noticeable differences between the two. While the entire body of Argento's work is something to admire, his first three films are surprisingly well-plotted, given Argento's notorious lack of interest in matters of narrative structure. "Bird" begins with Sam Dalmas, an American writer living in Rome, witnessing an attempted murder in an art gallery. Though he is unable to do anything, his fortuitous arrival saves the victim from almost certain death. His passport confiscated and at first held as a suspect, Sam is told by the police that this is the fourth attack in one month. The only difference is, the victim, a beautiful woman named Monica...

Broad appeal for Argento's debut feature
THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE
[L'Uccello dalle Piume di Cristallo]

(Italy/W.Germany - 1969)

Aspect ratio: 2.35:1 (Cromoscope)
Theatrical soundtrack: Mono

Even those who don't care for writer-director Dario Argento's later baroque extravaganzas may warm to his debut feature, a well-received thriller in which an American writer living in Rome (Tony Musante) witnesses an assault on a woman in an art gallery and is subsequently targeted by the would-be assassin, a crazed psychopath who's been terrorizing the city with a series of brutal murders. Typical of an Argento thriller, the hapless hero's investigation unleashes a cycle of violence which culminates in a climactic unmasking that will take some viewers completely by surprise.

Loosely inspired by Fredric Brown's novel 'The Screaming Mimi' (filmed under that title in 1958), Argento's first film is a fairly straightforward thriller with horror asides, anchored by a strong...

His first and arguably one of his best
I really couldn't tell you why I have yet to watch every film in Dario Argento's filmography. A few years ago it was easy to claim ignorance of many of this Italian director's important works because it was often so difficult to find any of them in an uncut form. Fortunately, DVD arrived on the scene and salivating film fans with dollars to spend prodded numerous companies to start churning out any movie they could get their hands on to satiate the masses. It wasn't too long before practically every Argento film arrived on store shelves, with many of these releases being the uncut, unrated editions. Even Troma, the flagship of flaccid filmmaking, released a so-so version of Argento's "The Stendhal Syndrome." People outside of the world of Italian horror cinema have most likely never heard of Dario Argento, unfortunately. These days, more people are familiar with the director's beautiful daughter Asia than with the horror maestro himself. What a shame. Argento's films, at...

Tosh love I
Tosh is a destination for me. Consistently funny, usually the next to last smile of my day. Paying $3 an episode on top of my prime subscription: not that enjoyable.

Brilliant Second only to Chris Rock in my Humble Opinion
This show is all about Tosh coming up with the funniest sarcastic comments and original idea's on youtube's funniest video's. Its not for the faint of heart. He is raw, and no topic is off limits. He will test you. Chris Rock talks about religion, handicap people, race, goes off on white and african american people, and all races in between. He talks about woman and men. Well Tosh is the same only he does it differently. Nothing is off bounds with him. On his show or his stand up routine. His show is original the fact it is the highest rated show on comedy central for a reason. He does great innovations like web redemption's for those who want to come to his show and re do the stupid stuff they did and try to get it right but in a funny bit that Tosh put together. He is makes fun of himself better and more than any other comedian. He is just one of the funniest people on the planet. You have to be able to handle any subject. If you have a topic that is just off limits for you...

Tosh.0 Is The Best Show Ever
Tosh.0 has always been one of my favorites and is absolutely hiliarous. I bought an episode off of Amazon Instant Video because Hulu Plus doesn't have Tosh.0 on it anymore.

One Day With The Creator - Segment 1: WHAT IS TRUTH?

Makes Sense
This is segment number 1 of 28 segments of the Bible Class called "One Day With The Creator". It begins with an excellent HD Music Video showing God's creation - it is goose-bump material! Then a teaching follows on "What is Truth?" The teacher, John Lynn, teaches with a very different but refreshing style of conviction mixed with humor. And he is very persuasive in his examples regarding why truth is not truth just because we believe it is truth. John holds your attention throughout by "keeping it real". In other words, he makes the Bible "make sense". If you have heard about this Bible class, but haven't purchased it yet, check it out by watching this first segment. If you like it, you will like the entire class. I can easily recommend this class "One Day With The Creator" to anyone who wants to increase their understanding of the Bible so that it "makes sense".

Beginner Taekwondo

WTF forms, not detailed, but worth it for the inspiration
Those who buy this DVD should be aware of the title: Beginner Taekwondo. Do not expect it to cover advanced techniques!

With regard to actually assisting a beginner I have actually found this to be somewhat helpful but not nearly detailed enough. If by now you are on a remote island, far away from instructors, you may find this DVD very helpful but with the popularity of martial arts in the US, you'd be far better off with assistance from personal training. Note that the spelling is Taekwondo. This indicates that this is of the WTF version. The facility where I practice uses mostly ITF techniques (we spell it Tae Kwon Do). You will need to learn the proper techniques as your own instructor teaches. Our stances are different and some hand techniques are different (and we use many more hand techniques). One-steps and basic sparring rules are also different.

I was dissapointed that the actual tournament sparring footage was so short.

Mr. Kim is...

Decent for Beginners
This Instructional Taekwondo DVD is fairly basic. It lays out just the simple moves that you can learn as a beginner. It's drawback is that it doesn't give you much of a step-by-step guide. You're pretty much left to figure out how to do it yourself and while most of the moves are easy enough, there are some that require repeated rewinding and pausing to be able to get it down just right.

Still, if you're looking for something to help you start, this is a pretty decent DVD.

better practice one kick a thousand times than a thousand kicks once!!!
I can not say enough for videos espically martial arts ones because we all learn differently and need different stimuli!!!!Buy it you will love it. You need to see the kicks to know how to do them and when to use them and this video explains that.

Waking Up In Rio

Although I am a Katy fan, I strongly recommend you not buy this DVD
The quality of picture is extremely poor. It looks like a bootleg version, in stark contrast to the HD stylized production of "Part of Me". I will return this DVD to the seller.

Good concert but mediocre quality (bootleg?)
Katy's full concert from Rio 2011 + 3 bonus live songs. Katy put on a great show at this concert in Rio which was broadcast in crystal clear HD. Unfortunately this release is a poor quality copy of the show which is really a shame since its available easily and much better quality all over the internet.

The picture is blurry, not crisp or sharp at all. Imagine the difference between a VHS and DVD and this would be the VHS. Again, this was broadcast in HIGH DEFINITION. The 3 bonus live tracks (doesn't say where they are from) are much better quality than the Rio footage.

It does appear to be a pressed DVD and not a DVD-r but the back cover is very amateurish and the poor quality video lead me to believe this is a bootleg release.
I would give this 5 stars if they just used a better print which would have been simple and its a shame they didn't.

Great concert
I would have given this DVD 5 stars, but the picture quality is poor. The bounse songs are a 5 star great quality. I am glad I bought this dvd and enjoyed watching & listening to the concert. I will keep mine because it still is worth seeing.

Verdi: Attila [Blu-ray]

At last! an Attila worthy as Ramey's successor!
Of all of Verdi's early works (the Galley operas), Attila has received the most attention in the last several years. Now that we have Ildar Abdrazakov ringing, commanding basso contante who can float words of love as well as command a troop of wild Huns, we can understand the popularity. In America his recent Met debut as Attila in 2010 was widely praised as he encountered the great Ramey on stage as the saintly savior of Rome, Leone. Ildar's voice is smooth, powerful and eminently listenable. He is big of build, handsome of face and could very well lead an invading army. The present recording was made some ten months after the Met engagement, this at the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg. Here the Odabella is Anna Markova a recent member of the Mariinsky roster. She has the range, power and depth needed in this role but lacks polish and brilliance of tone; these will come in time. She does have big sound and could hold her own in the final quartetto with Attila, Foresto her lover and Ezio...

great performance of the bass in title rol of Atilla king of the huns
this is a rare production of a quite unknown opera of verdi , with a lot of verdi quality ,
the Odabella role , as the daugter of the lord of Aquileja , Anna Macarova is the weakest link for me not a studdy voice , and not a great astress .
but all the others are realy great singers with caracter , and the chorus did a good job to ! mister Valery Gergiev nows the nusic of Verdi as the best
so , 5 stars for the bass I ldar Abdrazakov .
But it is still a opera to have in your collection , and gett yourself the blu-ray , the sound is fantastic !

Viva Verdi!!!
I loved this production from beginning to end. The conductor and the singers were great. I believed that Attila stole the show, it is an opera about himself after all.

Beware of Mr. Baker

An amazing film.
I loved this documentary. Ginger Baker is both a crazy genius and a train wreck. Nevertheless, this film humanizes the Cream drummer, warts and all. You end up both loving and hating him, yet you can't look away. His musical genius is readily apparent. What is unique is that the filmmaker got as close to him as anyone could. The interviews with Baker and his family and friends are wonderful. The editing of the film is superb. Great use of animation in moving the story forward plus tons of archival footage and great music. If you're a music fan of a certain age, don't miss this film!

Real and vivid portrayal of a great drummer but a flawed personality
This documentary does not hold back; you get to see the man himself just the way he is and was (I met him once myself and would prefer not to repeat that experience). By far the most influential drummer in Rock of all time, even though he is not a "rock" drummer. His Jazz credentials alone are stellar and equal to the best of his generation, and when you mix that with his astounding intuitive understanding of African rhythms, he has no peers.
Wonderful interviews with Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton and others.
Only wish they showed him playing more full pieces on his drums.

When Rockers Ruled the World
Heard about this documentary months ago and couldn't wait to see it; I was not disappointed. Excellent overview of the career of a true legend, and one of music's most compelling and contemptible characters. There was a time when rock stars like Ginger ruled the earth, leaving a path of dysfunctional destruction in their wake, while producing some of the greatest music the world has ever known.

Touch of Love 3D - THE INTENSE ORGASM MASSAGE (Blu-ray 3D & 2D Version) REGION FREE

A real review
The video is 70 minutes long and devotes half of it's time to giving the male an "intense orgasm massage" follwed by the female treatment. Set in an asian type setting including a Buddha statue on a shelf it has some nice New Age or ambient music in the background. There is an instructor that occasionally injects helpful clues to the techniques although there are shown in graphic detail. You do have the option to shut off the instructions.
We found this to be a very helpful video. The participants are very attractive as well.
I don't have a 3D TV yet so I will add the 3D review this fall.
Also note that the male orgasm is not shown. The camera focuses of the man's face while he orgasms. Otherwise this doesn't hold back anything else.
There is a picture slide show of about 5 minutes that seems to be tossed in to fill some room on the DVD.
Hope this is helpful.

Really?
I thought this would be informative, descriptive ... or at least ..good
kind of disappointed, just got to know about basic massage .. And i've had better massages.
but good if you've never seen a massage before

TOUCH OF LOVE
I ENJOYED THE VIDEO AND INTEND TO SHARE IT WITH A LADY FRIEND. I BELIEVE WE BOTH WILL LEARN FROM IT.

Monogram Cowboy Collection Volume 6 - Starring Jimmy Wakely

Jimmy Wakely sings again.
Jimmy Wakely was one of the last singing cowboys. He said he was indebted to Gene Autry for his career. in dress, style, and singing. He did not have whatever it was that made Autry so successful. But no other singing cowboy, except Roy Rogers, did either.
Probably Wakely's greatest liability was Monogram Pictures. Monogram did not have the capability to promote actors that Republic or Columbia had. What always impressed me about Wakely's films was the presence of good country songs as well; as cowboy songs. Also, he used interesting musicians like Wesley Tuttle, Johnny Bond, Ray Whitley, and Colleen Summers before she teamed with Les Paul and became Mary Ford. There are plenty of 8-Western faces in the films, but the Monogram ranch is overused. As usual, the transfers of sound and image by Warner Archives are excellent as well the service by Amazon.

La Rafle (The Roundup)

World War II... the Parisian summer of '42
La Rafle (The Roundup) gives us a glimpse of the atrocities committed during WW II. This particular movie focusses on Petain, the French police, and the crimes they perpetrated against the Parisian Jewish community. I have known about this
particular subject since I read Sarah's Key. I often wonder how people can so easily turn against neighbors, especially when the majority are children. This movie is heartbreaking; it reminds us that ignorance and power are a lethal combination but it also reinforces that fact that there are always good people in the midst of chaos. For anyone interested in WW II history this movie is a "must see".

Excellent movie on the little known Paris Round up of '42
This was a very well done movie on this particular event. After reading Sara's Key (a Novel). I was very interested about learning more about this specific round up. How heart wrenching. This is a very intense holocaust movie.

Great movie
In spite of knowing the story well, the movie was very engaging. The only issue was that I don't like subtitles with white on white. Other than that, awesome.

If I Were You [HD]

Largely Overlooked Type of Movie
I wasn't sure if I should rent this, but Marcia Gay Harden usually picks good scripts, so, I decided to rent this movie. And oh boy, I'm glad that I did. There is something very organic about the script. Marcia Gay's performance is *very* funny at times while honestly portrays the emotions of a compassionate and distraught middle-age career woman who is forced to re-evaluate her life and marriage after she finds out about her husband's love affair. This movie defies the typical Hollywood concept that love affairs and one night stand only belong to men of all ages and emotionally unstable young women, that young women cannot teach anything to wise middle age women, and deals with the reality of many that are clearly under-represtend in Hollywood movies.

Far-fetched and fun indie chick flick
My husband was out for the evening so thought I'd check out the new indie films for a high rated chick flick. This one fit the bill perfectly. It is a fun rather far-fetched story of a friendship that forms between the young lover of a married middle aged man and (unbeknownst to her) his wife. They both realize that they are making bad life choices for themselves so decide to try out letting the other make relationship and career choices from them ("If I were you..."). Despite the wife's initial motive of breaking up the relationship with "the other woman," she starts developing a genuine friendship with the younger woman, although of course is it based on lies and deceit. Both women get yanked out of their rut and comfort zone and begin recognizing and learning how to break out of self-destructive and self-limiting patterns. The focus is more on the development of the relationships rather than realism of storyline. All-and-all a perfect evening-alone (or with a best girlfriend) chick...

Strrong performances by Harden and Watling
This was a nice little movie that didn't try to be any more than it was. Marcia Gay Harden and Leonor Watling as the wife and mistress respectively were well matched for their roles.

Ms. Harden acts to save a young woman, Ms. Watling, who she rightly thinks is planning suicide. The cause of the young woman's unhappiness is that she was dumped by her lover who is a married man. Later when Ms. Harden finds out the man is her husband she continues her friendship with Ms. Watling without revealing what she knows. There are various comedic twists and turns leading to a satisfactory ending for the two women.

Tomorrow You're Gone

WELCOME TO MOE'S
Yes, I feel like Tom Hanks raising his hand and saying, "I don't get it." Charley (Stephen Dorff) gets out of prison and is going to perform a hit for Willem Dafoe. Nine minutes into the film you are going WTF as you realize Charley has some reality issues. We see Charley performing things he didn't do. Or did he do them in the past? Or is he imagining himself doing things?

Armed with money, a gun, and a powder puff blue bowling ball bag, Charley meets Florance (Michelle Monaghan) on a bus. She takes him home with her, but Charley attempts to keep his head clear, why I don't know as he never seems to be all there. Florance tells us that "we all have layers" perhaps a key to this character story. Her character is supposed to be quirky, but it didn't seemed developed very well.

By the end of the story, I didn't feel I had any real closure for this artsy film. Good Luck. If you liked this film try "Mysteria" another one I had trouble with.

Parental Guide:...

A very good movie with an art house type quality. Casting is perfect & I recommend but not for everyone. I say B.
"You have me to get you started out" Charlie Rankin (Dorff) has just got out of prison and stops in to see a man called "The Buddha" (Dafoe) who was writing him in prison. He is told about someone he is to murder for him. When the murder goes wrong Charlie begins to worry about what will happen. Him and a woman named Florence (Monaghan) begin to hang around together and Charlie thinks it will help, but he isn't sure of anything anymore. I have to start by saying that I did enjoy this and I recommend this movie but it is not for everyone. While not a total "art-house" type movie it is in that vein. The movie is more of a character driven type movie then I was expecting, but I really think that helped the movie. Dorff is good in this and Defoe has a strong and powerful presence even though he is only in it a few minutes. This is not really a fast paced movie but it will keep you watching right up until the end. I liked it. Overall, not a movie for everyone but well worth checking out. I...

Pretentious and odd
Highly pretentious crime flick about an ex-con (Stephen Dorff) who is supposed to kill a man on behalf of a powerful prison acquaintance nick-named the Buddha (Willem Dafoe). Along the way Dorff meets a slutty dream girl played enthusiastically by Michelle Monaghan, whose career must currently be on a steep downward slide. The movie is stylized like a waking nightmare, bringing to mind David Lynch's Lost Highway. For a while you don't know whether everything Stephen Dorff is experiencing is real or not. The problem is that nothing in the content of the story actually justifies the style--this is ultimately a run of the mill straight to video thriller gussied up as if it were Jacob's Ladder or a David Lynch movie. Some people might enjoy Tomorrow You Die for it's art-house ambiance but, unfortunately, there's absolutely nothing going on here but empty style.

Critics are wrong. This is a very good movie.
I'm not going to summarize the story. Plenty of that already out there. My thoughts about the movie are that if you like movies that focus on the characters and their relationships rather than a linear story, this movie is a rare treat. Extremely well thought out. Bad title almost kept me away. Glad I took a chance. I thought it was fantastic in all areas. Interesting relationships with likable people, many life lessons mostly well presented, good production value, score was beautiful, smart character studies, perfectly understated delivery by the actors. Found myself pausing to think about what was presenting at the moment. Clearly the best of the current bunch playing.

Excessive Indie Quirkiness, But Not Without Its Share Of Heart And Charm
I think that it's become my mantra--"quirk is the curse of independent cinema." In an effort to be cutesy and/or clever, films have been systematically stripping away genuine warmth and humor by presenting character types and sitcom contrivances instead of mining what is really funny in our everyday foibles. It becomes a fine balancing act, then, because a good quirky film can be both hysterical and touch your heartstrings. However, one that goes over the top can be painfully unreal and hard to sit through. And, in my opinion, there is very little middle ground. Josh Radnor's (How I Met Your Mother) debut feature "HappyThankYouMorePlease" cues you in right away with its title to its eccentric feel good nature. But after a pretty painful beginning and one incredibly off-putting storyline, Radnor's film overcomes its cliches with a likable cast selling even its most awkward moments.

Radnor, who also wrote and directed the film, stars as a typical commitment-phobic man/child...

Lonely Young New Yorkers Are Looking for Someone to Love Them in Josh Radnor's Appreciative "HappyThankYouMorePlease"
Sam Wexler is a lonely, struggling writer living in Manhattan. While rushing to make it on time to an interview with a publisher, he rescues a cute orphan boy, Rasheen, who is lost on the subway. The interview is ruined. To complicate matters, Rasheen won't allow Sam to take him to the police. Sam falls in love with Mississippi, a gorgeous waitress who is a struggling singer. Sam's best friend, Annie, has low self esteem because of an autoimmune deficiency that has left her bald; she is attracted to losers like a magnet but has been deflecting the advances of a successful, kind-hearted lawyer, Sam 2, who works in her company. Sam's other friends, Mary-Catherine and Charlie, who live together, are afraid of taking their relationship one step further to the marriage altar.

An evangelist once taught me that Christians should have an attitude of gratitude. In other words, we should always be thankful for what we have been given. When Annie once stepped into a cab, the...

The Flying Years

Most excellent review of the British aircraft industry's history
It's sometimes a little humorous in its total focus on UK industry, in the midst of the global evolution of aircraft and aerospace industry, however, this is a very good, and very interesting documentary. The British contributions to the global industry deserve such a telling, and even though I'm from the US, I recognize and applaud them. Most aircraft enthusiasts will be well entertained by this film.

I'll Take the British Flight, Thank You
Absolutely fabulous program about the 75-year history of British aircraft. You'll love the remarkable archival film footage.

In 1918 England was manufacturing 700 aircraft a month, but after the Second Wold War, the Royal Air Force had to find new outlets for the use of their aircraft. In August of 1919 the commercial flying industry began in England with flights to Paris, and the evolution of commercial airline companies like Imperial Airways had begun. Even new non-commercial planes were developed such as the Spitfire, as well as the Harrier aircraft which had vertical take-off, and was used during the 1982 Falklands War. England found uses for its aircraft not only for commercial purposes, but also developed new planes in its aviation program to compete in war time conditions.

Probably the most famous of all the British commercial planes was the supersonic, mach 2 jet, the Concorde, which was in production in 1969. Although, the Concorde jets are no longer in...

History of Aviation
Excellent British documentary covering the history of aviation, predominantly British aviation, but still an excellent program containing some very interesting archive material. Well worth viewing for any aviation enthusiast!

Alamo Gold

will do anything for gold?
i liked this film very much... great storyline.... excellent scenery... awesome filming... and fantastic acting. the guys and gals in this film were all very attractive and did an excellent job with there acting. The main male actor in this film did a superb job with his acting... he was absolutely driven to insanity by his wanting to find this chest of gold coins. Other men in the film are equally insane by finding the gold... so much so that they literally are killing each other to find it. the past and present storylines are done really well with the explanation of the gold's being buried and the ghost guarding it are quite believable. The chicks with these guys want to have fun and party all the time... but the guys want nothing to do with them.. instead they are consumed with finding the buried treasure. Some of the scenes of the girls walking around in their skimpy bikinis are quite revealing (especially the sexy brunette wearing the hoodie, and bikini bottoms). I think that...

Promising in concept but fails to deliver
This film is about an "elite" dance team of middle school age to high school age girls. It's a documentary that follows them through a single year, with a lot of focus on the leader of the dance school, Jenn.

I normally thoroughly enjoy dance movies, mostly the fictional variety, but also documentaries. However, I found this one only mediocre for a few reasons. First, I didn't really get a sense that these were truly elite dancers. Good, yes, but elite? No. Second, I didn't really feel I got to know any of the individual dancers well. There were one-on-one interviews with about four of the dancers but they just seemed a bit superficial. Third, the big conflict in the movie, the poor Christmas recital, seemed a bit forced. The drama just wasn't there.

If you're into dance, it's not a bad film, and you probably won't regret watching it, but you won't remember it for long. If you're not into dance, definitely skip it!

Difficult subject; beautiful storytelling
Ramon Hamilton weaves a tale that explores the complexity and pain of illegal immigration through pure storytelling without sensationalism. A must-see film.

Loved it!
This movie is great. Excellent story and acting. Truly suspenseful all the way through. I look forward to seeing the director's next movie.

One Long Day

Maybe two steps up from home video
Standard story line with a little original humor. Heavy on goofy camera effects. Lighter on acting. Stunts were third rate. Not horrible but production values were not worthy of much praise.

One Long Day
This film is fantastic for being a low budget film. The directing, acting and fight scenes were incredible. This film won 2 awards in film festivals in California and Nevada. I look forward to the sequel.

The Name of The Doctor [HD]

maybe it is just me
This isn't really a factual review, so don't fault me on that.

I love Doctor Who, I love it in all of its regenerations over the years [except that movie *shudders*] yet the more I have watched with Moffat as the head writer the less I have liked it until I have reached now. I really can't place my finger on it, but nearly everything I love about Doctor Who has either vanished or is in some shadow form. I adore the Clara--she's brilliant. I thought that I would be loving the show more now that we have her. She's very much the traditional companion sort of character. However, it is like each episode leaves a sort of bad taste in my mouth. Whatever I came for I was not given. I realize that with rebooting everything back in '05 we have to be reintroduced to so many different people and introduced out of their own context [in this season, the Ice Warriors], but so much is lost with that. Idk, it still worked fairly well under Russel T Davis, not perfectly though...

Have a Plan
I want the doctor to be brilliant again; and arrogant, braggadocios, and really clever. The last few episodes he's been saved by luck, not his manic genius. I want the doctor back who says things like, "There's one thing you never put in a trap if you're smart, if you value your continued existence, if you have any plans about seeing tomorrow there's one thing you never ever put in a trap.....Me."

Bring the doctor back.

All sizzle and no steak
Lots of special effects and grand speeches but no connection to the characters. If their trying to build some relationship between the Doctor and his sidekick it is hard to find. Focusing on the "big mystery" of why and how Clara came to be is interesting, but, she exhibited more personality and connection to the Doctor when she was a Dalek.

Inspirational!!!
Lori's story is so uplifting and encouraging. She is very inspirational. Her positive outlook and stubborn determination is amazing and will help her get through anything Breast Cancer throws her way. I am so glad Amazon Instant Video made available this episode of 'Say Yes to the Cure: Lori's Fight'!!!

such an inspiration
Lori's story came out just as I was in the process of biopsy to mastectomy. I watched then and clung to every word. However, after mine was behind me, I realized I didn't remember very much of the episode, so 6 mths later, I watched again. I now have it on my Kindle so I can watch any time I need a "friend who understands". Thank you so much for sharing your adventure.

Deals From The Darkside - Season 1 Episode 9 - Cruel Shoes [HD]

entertaining but...
I like it but the episode progress too slowly. It doesn't seem like there is enough content in each episode. Other than that the cast is likable, the ummmm subject matter is kinda cool. I have watched the first few episodes of season 1, if they don't get better I don't know if I will continue. I may end up removing from watch list

A Fun Show To Watch
As described, you get to see some cool deals from the dark side. It's a fun show, with a great cast of people who enjoy what they do. I would recommend it, if you're looking for Pawn Stars with a Darker/Dreamier edge

Great show
Learned a lot of history and a lot of interesting facts. Very interesting show and can't wait for more shows

Globe Trekker - Around The World: Pacific Journeys

The Best of Globe Trekker
I have always been curious about the south pacific islands. This dvd covers a pleasant young man traveling to Easter Island,Tahiti, Mangareva and Pitcairn Islands. We learn about the history, the natives, how the inhabitants presently live. The scenery is gorgeous. Part two is the continuing journeys of the same man, as he visits Tonga, Fiji, Norfolk island and New Caledonia. There are lovely unspoiled places on this planet. Good educational video. I hope these places remain undeveloped and unspoiled. For a unique vacation, visit, buy soveniers, take pictures, then leave it as you found it. Delightful dvd.

Episode Ten (Original UK Edition) [HD]

Lightweight Charm And Over-The-Top Performances Highlight This 10-Part British Soap Opera
The new British soap opera "Mr. Selfridge" has a certain frothy charm that will likely appeal to many viewers looking for something a bit more lighthearted from the Masterpiece Classic mantle. Ironically (or strangely) enough, "Mr. Selfridge" is the second series set in the world of retail to arrive on British airwaves this season following the popular "The Paradise." The show, which runs for 10 episodes (not 8 as are currently listed in the product description), is centered around the formation of Selfridge's Department Store in London after the turn of the century. Although the idea of the show is based in fact, I'm not entirely sure I would even call this a historical drama. It adheres more to the lines of a classic soap opera, with an ensemble of characters engaging in the expected romantic subplots and looking resplendent in period finery. The hat budget alone must surely be frightening (as are some of Mrs. Selfridge's hats)! It never digs particularly deep into complex...

Why expect Downton Abby? That would be boring!
Well,I happen to like Mr. Selfridge. The acting is stupendous and the characters are exquisitely dressed.
The sets are top notched. To try and compare this drama to Downton Abby is like trying to compare Are you being served? to Mr. Bean.
Both are delightful alone but use completely different type of Britsh humor.
Even-though the time-frame of Mr.Selfridge and Downton overlap, their stories are completely different.
One can enjoy both,differently.

Historical Drama
I stumbled across this series by accident one Sunday night on ITV and became fascinated. As the reviewers above have discussed in detail there is some unevenness in the story and character development and to be expected the acting and it's hard to know why but despite these flaws - or maybe because of them - since the series is based on a real character and events which are by definition flawed - you are captivated and just want to see and learn more about Mr. Selfridge and his time in London. I became fascinated by his story through this series and desperately wanted to learn more about him. I've now ordered the book the series is based on as well as the book Mr. Selfridge wrote himself in the '30s - "The Romance of Capitalism". I learnt that many things we consider 'normal' in retail today were introduced by Mr. Selfridge - "There are only 'x' more shopping Days 'till Christmas"; the customer is always right; special events to get people into a store; getting shoppers into a store...

Breathtaking! A thrilling series to fill cold winter nights. Highly recommended.
Hope they continued this series for a fourth season.

Still Great Series
I have been watching this series for about a year when I discovered it by chance and signed up for all 3 seasons on Amazon and while this season has a different flavor than the previous seasons I am enjoying it totally. The acting is good, the characters are interesting and the missions are not retreads of other series like I see on other shows. 5 Stars for me easy.

I would recommend viewing this DVD both prior and after a visit to China and taking the Silk Road tour.

A Company Of Heroes

Young men frotunate to have grown old . . .
Perhaps being an Army Brat and remembering the 'stories' of WWII makes this all the more poignant. To listen to these men recount their memories is to recognize the bonds formed during combat. Friendship and trust that has remained through the years and been passed on to their children and grandchildren. Their training began in Georgia and saw them through places that have been immortalized in films . . . 'A Bridge Too Far?' Yes, Operation Market Garden was a reality for these men. Their stories allow one to follow their path from army training, airborne training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, even more training in England, their landing at Normandy, and finally 'back home.' These men should be listened to for they have so much to share. The narrative is well done, includes interviews and photographs. Listen, if you will, and remember!

True Heroes
I really enjoyed the commentary by the soldiers that lived through the war years in combat. I recommend this to all veterans...

Adorable, cute Rom Com
I really enjoyed this Romantic comedy! It was fun but wholesome. If you are looking for a lighthearted family movie that is not too long, this is one you can watch with the whole family. It is in Hebrew and some Spanish with English subtitles. The plot is simple- a new immigrant father who is a soap opera actor is trying to get a part. However, he is told his Hebrew accent is not Israeli, so he convinces his Ulpan teacher to assist. He also has a lovely little girl and a neighbor who watches the girl. The teacher is frum and is hesitant to go along with it because he initially tried to pick her up in the park. She decides to allow the tutoring after he helps her out of a date with an unwanted suiter. I won't ruin the rest for you- just enjoy!

I like the Guns
I like the Guns But I question how this show makes gun-owners look like to non gun-owners and the anti-gunners. The only thing I can say is that Knob Creek is one of the safest gun ranges that I know of and that I know alot of the nonsense on this show is acting for the shows producers for ratings and that is disappointing cause this range and the people that run are great for themselves without scripting a act for each weekly show

KLITSCHKO - don't miss it
An excellent film, not only regarding the world of boxing - but family honor, self respect, awareness and integrity. Definitely worthy of sharing with young people trying to get a grasp on the world (and the spoiled ones who need direction). Good to know there ARE some good people still moving forward with kindness and a sense of family - which Americans are getting confused with. Just buy it!

Great!
These guys had the depth of persona needed to be true heroes and winners. What great role models for fans and non-fans alike buy, the way they lived their lives both in and out of the ring
